Guides (partial DRAFT)

A guide is, in the general sense, someone who provides guidance, or assistance in the accomplishment of something. This may be, in the physical world, someone who helps with physical direction, but can be used in a more general sense to cover someone providing assistance with a skill. In that broader sense, it also encompasses spiritual, psychic or metaphysical guidance that may come through nonphysical means (psychic impressions, dreams, etc) from someone - often, but not necessarily, someone who is discarnate (i.e., has no physical body - or, if you prefer, has passed over, or is dead). It is the latter sense that I use this word, and I reflect that by (generally) capitalising the word - i.e., Guides, not guides.

It seems to me that this particular use of the word came about, or became more widely used, as a result of Spiritualism. Before that, I rather suspect that Guides were described as Deities, Messengers of the Gods, and so on. It is, however, important to be specific, as there are also Patron Deities, shamanistic allies, etc - even incarnate people who have greater experience (although those may also be referred to as 'teachers' ... ), as shown in the following figure:

While I am providing illustrations, the following shows, amongst other matters, one of the ways that Guides can be of assistance:

Now, there are those who, perhaps out of a misguided sense of what constitutes 'fun', seek to create mischief, and a smaller number who seek actively to harm, who will step in and take a vague request for 'guidance' as being any form of 'words from beyond', and so they will provide a communication using nonphysical means that could range from misleading to harmful. To exclude those, it is always important to qualify one's request as being that one wants this from one's BPLF Guides.

As of the time this definition was written, I’ve touched on this idea in the following posts:
