agape

Us lot - meaning English speakers - tend to use the one word, ‘love’, to cover a whole multitude of things: the love that a parent has for a child, the love that lovers share, the love that friends can have for each other – even a strong liking (e.g., “I love that brand of coffee”).
The Ancient Greeks were a bit better set up, and had a choice of words where we have just the one. One of those words was ‘agape’, which is generally explained as meaning ‘unconditional, universal love’.
In the ‘New Age’ sense, agape is an often preferred way of saying ‘spiritual’ love.
