astral

According to my school dictionary (Pocket Oxford Dictionary, 1966), astral means ‘of stars’ of the ‘spiritual appearance of the human form’ (which raises the possibility of some interesting philosophical conjectures about ancient legends and history and how this association came into being, but I won’t go into that now J )
In New Age terminology (or in metaphysical considerations, if you prefer that term), the word ‘astral’ is used to cover both:
(a)    all nonphysical levels of existence (i.e., worlds and bodies on much higher frequencies than physical frequencies), and
(b)   the particular set of nonphysical frequencies above the ‘etheric’ nonphysical set of frequencies and below the ‘mental’ set of nonphysical frequencies (which is more precise usage).
The astral parts of our aura are created largely by our emotions and long-term characteristics of our personality.
The astral body survives the death of the physical body (the etheric body does not – it dissipates).
The astral world is the level of existence that most people go to between incarnations. The level responds to our thoughts and emotions, and the sense of ‘distance’ on this level is largely about emotional closeness.

As of the time this definition was written, I’ve touched on this topic in the following posts:
