automatic writing

This is a form of trance mediumship in which a nonphysical source guides (to greater or lesser extent) the hand(s) of the medium to create “spirit writing” (or, these days, “spirit typing” J ). Just as trance can vary from light to deep, so too does automatic writing vary from “inspired writing” (receiving impressions and then recording them) through to true automatic writing where the source (generally a guide) literally takes over the hand and moves it (a strange experience, believe me!).

A variation of this is psychic art, where some form of artwork is created. This also ranges from receiving inspiration through to some remarkable cases – that I have seen on film  where a complex and elegant painting was created with the medium’s eyes blindfolded.
