Ever cooked pork on a barbecue? It snaps, crackles and sizzles – it makes a lot of noise and spits fat out. Hence, when someone is observed making a lot of noise and maybe metaphorically “spitting chips”, then an Australian would say they are “carrying on like a pork chop” (on a barbecue).
