My definition of feminism is ‘making sure people do not consciously
or unconsciously discriminate on the basis of gender/gender identity/sex’. It
is about a fair go irrespective of gender/gender identity/sex, and the benefits
often apply to men as well as women. As an example of the latter,. when I was
an Equal Employment for Women in the Workforce Representative in 90s, I pointed
out that much of what I was trying to do would also give men improved
benefits - such as the opportunity to spend more time with their children.
The stereotypes
around man hating and being butch lesbians are all absolute, utter and complete
rubbish - which is not to say SOME women professing to be feminists do not have
those characteristics - by people who don’t want to move out of their comfort
zone, or who cannot accept other people dealing with life differently or that
others have different lessons and thus must
live in ways that are, perhaps, better.
