Spiritualism

Spiritualism is a religion/philosophy founded on the premise that a portion of us survives death, and dedicate to demonstrating that through mediumship. In Australia (and maybe the UK and North America) spiritualists tend to talk of seven principles (see http://www.snu.org.uk/spiritualism/principles, or the VSU for a less sexist version), which have become more emphasised in Australia since the recognition of Spiritualism as a religion in around the 1970s.
Wikipedia has a reasonable entry on this topic if you want facts such as when it was founded, but I would strongly recommend you follow this up by researching the websites of Spiritualist organisations directly - e.g., http://www.snu.org.uk/.
