street cred

This is one of those phrases that I use from time to time, and, given my age, it may not be familiar to younger persons, so ... street cred.


In my experience, this means being credible with people who are not removed from everyday life.
Now, whilst I support rigorous testing of ideas, I consider that the whole concept of ‘street cred’ (and keep in mind that I generally use it light-heartedly) shows a bias against things like … academic cred. And if I was defusing a nuclear weapon, I’d be a darn site more interested in academic cred than street cred.
